Music Mondays - Hello

Hello...It's Me

I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe we are almost through the first month of 2016; and I find myself wondering where time has gone. I feel like it’s been a while since I wrote a Music Monday post, and Hello by Adele just seemed appropriate to acknowledge my clear absence from these posts. I thought I would take this time to let you know where I’ve been and what’s been keeping me busy.As you may have heard on my year-end podcast, the biggest goal I set for myself for 2016 is to sell my company, The Financial Gym. After building this for the past two years, I realized that the best way to serve the most people is to merge with a larger company that has the resources and presence to make my dream a reality. Like most things with my entrepreneurial experience, most of this exercise has fallen on my shoulders and the process of selling a company is not easy by any stretch of the imagination.I have spent a great deal of time over the last few weeks working through financial forecasts, strategic analysis of potential partners and strategic analysis of my own strengths and weaknesses. The research and analysis phase has been an enlightening and fascinating one for me, but more than that it’s been a time consuming one.

Busy January Schedule

I normally wouldn’t mind spending so much time on this business project, but January was a particularly busy client meeting month since end of December clients moved to January because of the holidays. The work I do everyday with my clients is what my life purpose is, and I enjoy my time with them more than anything; however, there is a great deal of pre and post meeting work that surrounds our quarterly reviews. In addition to my big goal for the company, I have also set goals for my podcast; and instead of launching one show a week for the first few months of the year, I am releasing two and the additional show, although not as long as my main shows, has added more work than I anticipated. The good news is that I have already seen huge increases in my downloads and listener engagement, the bad news is that my podcast time has cut into my blog writing time.

No Time to Get Sick

The other hiccup I experienced at the beginning of this year was a nasty stomach virus that nearly wiped me out for an entire week. Most days I love running my own company and handling the responsibilities that come with it; however, an illness is not something I ever budget for and it’s tough for me to manage. Every day that I rested my body felt like weeks of missed work time, but I knew I had to take the time to recover or it’s effects would have continued beyond that first week. Now as I approach the end of January, I feel accomplished as far as my client work and I am getting back on track as far as selling my business so I hope to find some more time to write. I started this blog almost three years ago when my business was in its infancy and didn't keep me that busy. As the business has grown, my blog time has decreased and I miss it. I hope to reengage more in the blogging space over the next few months because I’ve missed writing and spending quality time with my blog friends.

How is your beginning of 2016? Have you had any bumps along the way that make you feel behind your goals?
